Kyoto Yuzen dyed goods maker Okaju (Kyoto city) participated in the trade show held by JAPAN BRAND Development Assistance Program in Paris in 2009. As a result the company made a contract with the world known French tea shop THE O DOR launching the export from Japan. The French company showed its deep interest in fabrics designed and dyed by the traditional Kyoto Yuzen technique.
Okaju is an old company in Kyoto that has been producing dyed goods for over 150 years. During long history the company inherited the countless number of Yuzen patterns. Recently Okaju has started to apply the Yuzen pattern and design in making bags, interior items and utensils that now are sold in several stores in New York and other cities.
The president of the company Okajima Shigeo admits that the company does not only try to keep the Yuzen craft as a nostalgic hobby, but also tries to create goods that meet people's minds and their life styles.

New products from Okaju will be shown during the exhibition held by JAPAN BRAND in Paris Mitsukoshi Etoile on January 20-21, 2010. In the future the company also plans to work actively on expanding business in the foreign markets.
